Cotentin – A Garden of Eden for hikers

Where sea and land merge into one...

At nearly two hundred miles in length, the sentier des douaniers, the 'customs path' is one of the highlights of your visit to Cotentin.

To the west, granite cliffs overlook the beaches and dunes around la Hague. The sights are grandiose and wild, the Nez de Jobourg being a classic example.

To the east the plain of the Val de Saire declines gently to the sea, alternating between beaches, rocky points and creeks. The promontories of the Cap  de Carteret, the Cap de la Hague, the Cap de Flamanville and the Cap de Fermanville offer a marvellous sequence of panoramic views over a wonderfully well-preserved natural beauty.

Inland, other pathways and trails lead you and your family around a journey of discovery, finding out all about local history and heritage in the bocage - the traditional hedgerowed farmland of the region.

Discovering Cotentin is great on foot, but can also be done by mountain bike, and on horseback! Printed guides and maps are available, and you can even take a qualified guide (a person) from the tourist office with you.
