la Manche

Le Mont Saint MichelA whole county to discover

The Cotentin peninsula makes up the majority of the French département (the equivalent of a county) of "la Manche". The name comes from the French name for the English Channel, as this body of water surrounds it on three sides. It is a spectacular part of Normandy that has been shaped by wind and waves as well as by a gentle sunny climate thanks to the gulf stream.

From Cherbourg to the Mont Saint-Michel and from Coutances to the D-Day landing beaches, la Manche is a garden  to be enjoyed, with green valleys and well-worn paths inviting you on long country walks and idyllic villages where you can get the full local experience of food, drink and culture. Le littoral Chausey

For lovers of the great outdoors there are no less than 220 miles of coastline which you can use as your playground for the whole range of sports related to sea wind and surf.
