Le patrimoine et sites culturels

The heart of the Cotentin is a country of art and unique history. At every turn the visitor finds architectural wonders such as manor houses, castles, fortified farms, fishermen's houses, mills, lots of religious buildings and other beautiful houses which all attest to a rich past and a fascinating story.

The peninsula contains a wealth of
exceptional maritime structures. The Vauban Towers (registered with UNESCO), the City of the Sea located in the old transatlantic ferry terminal in Cherbourg (last stop of the Titanic), where the artificial harbour is the largest in the world... ports, lighthouses and semaphore stations... all unique places of discovery along the coast of the Cotentin.

Cotentin has many famous sons and daughters who have contributed to the wealth of French literary and artistic heritage - Tocqueville, Millet, Barbey d'Aurevilly and the poet Jacques Prévert among them.

Beautifully tended parks and gardens abound, surrounded by historical monuments and charming private houses.
